After the long gap, fans were treated to a prequel trilogy, a handful of TV shows, spinoff movies, and now the ongoing sequel trilogy.Įven with the sequel trilogy coming to a close next year with Episode IX, Disney has no plans of putting the series back on the shelf. Thirteen years is really the longest fans have had to wait for Star Wars content, which occurred in between these animated series and The Phantom Menace. After the original trilogy concluded, fans could still enjoy the TV shows Droids and Ewoks which both ended in 1986. There were only a few years in between the films of the original trilogy. In fact, Star Wars has never really slowed down since George Lucas released the first movie. Even though the first Star Wars came out over forty years ago, the franchise is still going strong. The year 1977 was such a long time ago that it almost does seem like a whole different galaxy far far away.
